The mother of a British teacher raped and murdered in Qatar has been accused of plotting to have her killer executed on the tenth anniversary of her death – in an extraordinary slur by the authorities.
Alison Patterson, 58, was trying to discover if Badr Hashim Khamis Abdallah al-Jabr is still in prison for killing her daughter Lauren, 24, exactly a decade ago today.
In Britain victims of such crimes are notified when similar level offenders are released from jail.
But Mrs Patterson’s lawyer in Qatar, who has been trying to find out the information to give her peace of mind, has been blocked at every turn.
And in an insulting – and surreal development – he has discovered the authorities in Qatar believe Mrs Patterson is setting a trap to kill him.
The outlandish suggestion is rendered the more ridiculous, as she said she did not want him to face the death penalty when he was convicted of Lauren’s murder.
Mrs Patterson told MailOnline today: ‘It is absolutely farcical – that would be the last thing on my mind.
‘Do they think I am going to travel all that way to kill him with my own hands? You couldn’t make it up.
‘I don’t want revenge, I want justice for my daughter. Surely I have the right to know if he is still in prison?’
